Sweetener of Choice

FDA says Aspartame ingestion produces methanol, formaldehyde and more.

Aspartame (NutraSweet®) as it has been shown to actually increase one's desire to eat more carbohydrates. The FDA receives more complaints about aspartame than any other food additive.

David Hattan, Ph.D., Acting Director of FDA's Division of Health Effects Evaluation, has been quoted as saying that aspartame ingestion results in the production of methanol, formaldehyde and formate – substances that could be considered toxic at high doses.

Two amino acids in aspartame -- phenylalanine and aspartic acid -- can cause neurotoxic effects such as brain damage. "This is true in certain individuals and in high enough doses," says Hattan. How much is to much 6 servings per day. According to research American's consume 20 servings (20 tea spoons) of sugar per day on average.

Sucralose  - Added carbohydrates

Because sucralose is so much sweeter than sugar, it is bulked up with maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate made of rice and or corn. So if you are following a low carb diet, using sucralose you are adding carbohydrates to your diet.

Sugar can cause many problems

According to Dr. Nancy Appleton sugar disrupts the body chemistry causing wreaking havoc on the endocrine and immune systems. This in turn leads to all sorts of complications such as: hypoglycemia, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, headaches, allergies, asthma, obesity, periodontal disease, tooth decay, and more.

Stevia

According to FDA Consumer magazine November-December 1999 "Another product, stevia, is derived from a South American shrub. Though it can impart a sweet taste to foods, it cannot be sold as a sweetener because FDA considers it an unapproved food additive. "The safety of stevia has been questioned by published studies," says Martha Peiperl, a consumer safety officer in FDA's Office of Premarket Approval."

We would love to see those studies. Every study we have found shows stevia and stevioside as perfectly safe. In fact far safer than the Frankenstein sweeteners derived in a laboratory such as aspartame, cyclamate, sugars with chlorine added to replace carbon so you can not absorb the sugar, etc.
